Why The Big Green Egg Cooker Smokes Other Barbeque Grills
If you are a grill fanatic, you've most likely discovered the Big Green Egg grill. It is a ceramic grill you can use as a grill, smoker and also an outdoor oven. It really is so adaptable you are able to prepare all sorts of things from hamburgers and steaks and other traditional grill foods to desserts, breads as well as pizza.
Eggheads swear by the Big Green Egg, but you may be thinking what makes the Egg (as it's fondly called) out-shine other barbeque grills.
Probably the biggest difference is the overall look of the grill. The Big Green Egg smoker is well, green and shaped like an egg. Although I can't say exactly why it is green, I can say that the egg shape was created (on purpose) to grant the power to regulate and retain the heat within the grill much better than other grills.
The second main difference is the material. Rather than being constructed with metal, the Big Green Egg has thick ceramic walls. Ceramic is a lot more durable when compared with other materials, which means the Egg will last longer than other bbq grills, it can be cooked on year long (even in unusually cold temperatures). It's also safer, particularly if there are children playing close by, because the ceramic material is much cooler than traditional metal grills plus you always cook with the lid down, therefore you never have to worry about flare-ups.
There are several other differences however one of my favorites is the number of fans the Big Green Egg has. You can find Egg fanatics and gatherings throughout the U.S., and Eggheads are always eager to share their stories, tips and recipes at events and on the Egghead website. I can't think of any other grill that has such a following.
I will admit, the Egg does have some disadvantages in comparison with other grills. Such as, it isn't a cheap barbeque grill. You should expect to pay about $700 for a large Big Green Egg. Additionally, you have to use lump wood charcoal, which is not always easy to find and can be quite a bit more costly when compared with traditional charcoal briquettes. The Big Green Egg also has a smaller cooking surface compared to many gas grills, which means you may want a backup bbq grill when entertaining many people.
However, the flexibility of the Big Green Egg grill, the ability to grill, smoke or even bake with your Egg, and the awesome results you will get (the Egg can be quite forgiving, even for novice grillers) are well worth the purchase price. If you're a barbecue fanatic and you do a good deal of smoking in addition to barbecuing you will love the quality and the results you get while using the Big Green Egg.
