I have had a problem with my weight since I was a child. There have been times in my life where I am close to my perfect weight and there have been other periods when I have been 60 pounds overweight. My cooking capabilities and love of food began to create a fitness problem for my husband as well. He has never been heavy, but soon the amounts and types of food that I had in the house started to catch up with him. He informed me that he had to find a diet that would help him shed the extra fifteen pounds which he had gained. I agreed that I needed to try to lose fat and increase my fitness level again so we went on a low carb diet program together. I have tried every diet plan known to man, from weight watchers to pills, to prepared food plans. I know that I need to make a fitness change in addition to the dieting, because it doesn't matter how much I lose I put it back on. The most difficult part of the brand-new diet plan is finding a low carbohydrate breakfast. It is true that you can eat eggs, cheese and meat; however, these things take some time to prepare. I leave for work very early in the morning time so taking time to make a low-carbohydrate breakfast was not a task I wanted to do. Many of the quick solutions for a morning meal did not fit the criteria for a low carbohydrate breakfast. Toast, cereals, yogurts and fruits that are fast to grab and eat on the run weren't on the list of satisfactory foods.
When we were on this diet program there were not as many low carbohydrate foods on the market as there are today. Most prepared and packaged low carbohydrate breakfast foods and other meals appeared one or two years later, after the low-carbohydrate eating plan became so trendy. I find it interesting that once all the prepackaged foods began to be available, people were not having as much success with the diet plan. The convenience of the packaged foods leads to a greater calorie intake. My resolution for the low-carbohydrate breakfast was to cook a dozen eggs on Sundays. I would keep them in the fridge and eat two of them every morning. For a mid morning snack I would eat a couple of sticks of string cheese and then have a chef salad or bun-less burger with a side salad for lunch. Supper was consistently protein and greens. We did both lose fat on the eating plan and the great part was that you don't feel hungry.
